Self Respect
Dear Phem,
In this world, your ultimate crown will not be the attainment of wealth or fame but that of self respect.
Your ultimate crown will be the knowledge that you have been your most trusted ally and were courageous enough to stand for your truth when it would have been so easy to give in. Everyone has an innate knowing of their highest truth pertaining to their path in life, yet so few dare to take a leap of faith. So few dare to trust their inner voice due to fear of not fitting into someone else's mold. This they do to the detriment of their own relationship with themselves. The only relationship that counts.
My beloved Phem, would you trust someone who is unreliable and often throws you under the bus to appease others? Would you respect such a person? I want you to know that if you have ever lacked peace in your heart, it is because you have succumbed to external truths rather than your own organic truth pertaining to who you are.
Self respect a phenomenal concept and a driver of authentic as well as wholesome loving. It is the evidence of connection with a Higher Power within the self. This connection is forged each time you trust and obey an instruction from the deepest part of yourself pertaining to the honoring of your highest truth. The connection is similarly desecrated each time you disregard this instruction out of fear.
Beloved child, without self respect there is no peace, there is no rest, the body remains in a state of dis-ease and sleepless nights become a constant companion. What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses self respect? If he can't even look at himself through the mirror of his heart?
Self respect is not about arm wrestling with others in order to forcefully instill your views on who they are or who you are. In fact this is precisely what you do when you are in a state of disconnection in a futile effort to reconnect (fixing an inner problem) by controlling external circumstances. Self respect is not being impulsive and explosive either. It is the acknowledgment of your inner communication and the conscious effort to process it into effective self expression to self and others.
Self respect is a peaceful relationship with yourself within yourself. Self respect is being kind and loving to yourself despite your so called imperfections and gently guiding yourself to a desired state. There is no room for self critisim and debasement since these are mainly counterproductive. Rather, self respect says: Each day is a new opportunity to strengthen my relationship with Self through any opportunity that presents and to pat myself on the back every step of the way. It is living out your highest ideals regardless of external approbations or the lack thereof. It is the ability to say, I have fought the good fight of faith and the crown of self respect is my glory.
I hope this message has helped you to understand how imperative self respect is to your happiness and wellbeing. I also hope that you will be inspired to charge on courageously through life knowing the value of the ultimate goal.
